Whitechapel

Whitechapel
Whitechapel is just a short distance from the City of London. Historically, it has always been known for the infamous Whitechapel murders believed to be committed by Jack the Ripper in the late 1800s. London’s Jewish community then made it their home in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, it is at the heart of a large Bengali community, as well as large numbers of city workers, who choose it for its vibrancy, good transport links and proximity to the City and Central London. There is also a large group of people who work in Whitechapel, since the Royal London Hospital is one of many large employers based in the area, just minutes from Whitechapel station by foot. The station itself lies between Aldgate East and Stepney Green stations on the District and Hammersmith & City lines, and between Shoreditch High Street and Shadwell stations on the East London Line. It is in Travelcard Zone 2.
